insanely heady stuff, this one. its a belgian brown type as a base, still pink in color from the fruit, but not a blonde or pale, a little more maltiness to it, a hard be to really nail down in terms of style, but it definitely has a belgian yeast in it, and is done with 35% nebbiolo grapes, which, just wow! in a beer/wine hybrid context, this one is pretty tough to beat, still not the very best ive had here, but everything they do is so intriguing and compelling. the color on this is awesome, its pink from the grapes but a bit darker than a rose from the malt, an abbey type, almost smells like a drier dubbel with wine in it, tart strawberry, grape tannins, and some amount of floral herbal almost potpourri character, yum! the flavor is great, oddly wine driven for having some darker malt in it. i love that i can appreciate this as big red italian grapes, they come through so pure in this, obviously thats a lot of fruit in here, but with a bigger malt base its crazy how forward they are. some sweetness here, raisin and fig with the grapes is awesome, and a soft ester from the yeast of dried fruit as well. cleaner in the finish, enormously complex all the way through though, and so curiously bright in mouthfeel, like that a beer with this much body can feel so uplifted and sparkling is just wild, so complex and refined and just beautiful beer overall. probably not for everyone, but definitely for me!
