Got this from Doopie cause he hated it and wanted rid of it. Cheers!
From a 25cl bottle into a snifter
Best before December 2019
Special Edition 2017
APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a three finger, medium looking, creamy light tan head with excellent retention. Bistre brown body with medium levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a faint wisp and leaves good lacing on the glass. Splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass. Lighter color but well-engineered head on this one.
SMELL: Dark fruits, grapes and prunes, lots of brown sugar with notes of leather and tobacco as well. Slightly metalic. Bold.
TASTE: Some roasted flavors with dark fruits, grapes, raisins, prunes and dates, as well as some red wine up front. Flavorful and sweet. Bold finish of grapes, red wine notes, brown sugar sweetness, giving way to leather and tobacco lingering on the palate. A touch metallic as well.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, smooth, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some bitter tobacco lingers.
OVERALL: This is okay, certainly not nearly as bad as Doopie made it out to be, but it doesn’t really satisfy the desire for an imperial stout. It’s a lot more dark brown in color and the character is laced with dark fruit and leather qualities. This seems to be common throughout Europe but I certainly enjoy the more roasted, coffee and chocolate forward examples of the style that you see more in North America. It's well executed but doesn't really deliver the imperial stout quality we're all looking for. Pass. Thanks again, Dooper!
