Regular pour for an American stout--that is to say it's pretty but I'm not like falling in love with it or anything. Very dark red, not quite opaque, with a nice brown head.

Smells really, really good. Man, this is like Young's only chocolatier. Dark cocoa with hints of roasted grain. Simple and strong and smooth and ohmygoodness it smells wonderful.

Ahhh...damn it doesn't taste as good as it smells. Doesn't taste bad--actually tastes pretty darn good. The chocolate is smooth and wonderful and creamy up front, nearly perfectly sweet. A more bitter backend would have worked, so would a continuation of the same sweetness. Instead, there's a slightly off sour maltiness that's really not bad but just not that great.
