A little of the new, a little of the old, and with a mindset that summer never dies, Vitamin Sea's three headed monster of a beer celebrates Citra, Cascade and Columbus hops with an alcohol content that's intended to kill.
Pouring a hazy golden taupe, Triple Summer leaps right out with a bursting branch ripe scent of citrus, tropical fruit, stone fruit and the dank perfume of hemp and citronella. Through its frothy ivory cap, the first sip carries a cereal heavy flavor of poundcake, honey and cream.
Its smooth but heavy fruit impressions remain creamy across the middle palate as those tangerine, mango, grapefruit and peach accented hops wash the tastebuds with seeming fruit juices. As the bitterness rises, its persistent grain character holds serve through the development of spruce, tea, fruit rinds and botanical grasses. Smooth but spicy, the alcohol trends gin-like in its botanical nature but also spicy like vodka.
Full bodied, creamy and warming despite the persistence of sweet grains, Triple Summer is still smoother and much more drinkable than a ten-plus percent beer should be. Finishing soothing and warm, the ale trails into never ending collection of summer fruits, just as the brewers intend.
