Collaboration with Equilibrium Brewery
This is what happens when you spend too much time at various tiki bars with the fam from Equilibrium Brewery - Don't say we didn't warn you. We took a DIPA recipe that we hopped with Galaxy, Sabro and BRU-1 and then we conditioned it on Toasted Coconut, Lime Zest and Blue Spirulina (?) to create a tropical drink inspired beer like we’ve never seen before.

Pours a bright BLUE color - like bright deep blue ... Ive never seen anything like this other than the Vitamin Sea beers you guys have posted. So with that I think its probably from Vitamin Sea. Thin one, one and a half finger head settles in on the beer and shows excellent retention. It is a light blue, as you'd expect from a blue beer ... The aroma has notes of tropical fruit, coconut, bubblegum, sugar, berries ... its quite reminiscent of a tropical cocktail - like some kind of a tiki cocktail mixer or something.
The taste is interesting - its clearly an IPA - I am getting some bitter hops, blue raspberry, and this weird flavor I can't place - floral? sweet, sugary ... Im really having trouble describing it because its so foreign to me. There is a mild bitterness on the finish that lingers to the back fo the palate. Feel is light to medium bodied. Prickly carbonation. Really smooth.
Overall this is unlike anything I've ever had ... different, but enjoyable. Not something Id drink on the regular, but to try it once? Absolutely!

Purple beer; purple. In low level light, it's a cross between green and purple. Head production, retention, and lacing are fantastic; slight floaties. Incidentally (or perhaps not so): how do you rate the appearance of a purple beer? Knowing it was intentional, and given the rest of the parameters, I think the appearance reflects quality and care, unconventional coloration notwithstanding.
Nose is fruity and herbal - herbal exclusively from the hops, and fruity likely from the combination of hops, malt, yeast, and flavorings.
Flavor follows, with herbal hops battling it out over the malt base and additives. Coconut makes a mild appearance; the lime zest is absent. Vaguely, indefinably fruity. Mineral; strange; absolutely unique. True to intent, this really tastes more like a mixer on the beach.
Without question, some people are absolutely going to hate this beer. I don't fault them. 16 ounces might be too much for me. However, do I find it enjoyable? I do. Do I think it met the breweries' intentions? Absolutely. Is it creative and unique, but also well executed? Without question.
Buyer beware: if you pick this up, make sure you know exactly what you're getting into - and if so, you're probably going to be pretty pleased. For my personal tastes, I think selecting hops with such an herbal bitterness was a mistake; fruitier hops, both citrus and tropical, would have had a better overall effect.

“ Our tropical drink inspired double IPA Collab with Equilibrium hopped with Galaxy, Sabro and BRU-1 and then conditioned on Coconut, Key Lime and Blue Spirulina. Tiki glass recommended”
Canned 8.14, opened 8.16
I’ve had red beer, I’ve had green beer...this is my first blue beer
One finger creamy frothy sky blue Foam cap, good retention , settles to a frothy ring with lacings
Aroma is coconut, pineapple, pina colada , lime
Taste is coconut
Gentle hop bite , coconut taste lingers ,
Shocking blue beer,,,,not a flavor profile I expected from two of my favorite brewers
