When Other Half and Vitamin Sea get together, apparently its all about the C. ...and the sea. But can you see it?
I Can't Sea What you C is their collaborative hazy ale that's all about those "C..." hops. With the aid of Comet, Chinook, Citra, Cashmere, Cascade, Centennial, Callista and Calypso hops, the Imperial New England IPA is more than just the most hoppy version of Reading Rainbow that we've seen. It's a burnt lemon and turbid ale that floats a lathery satin froth. A perfumy scent of citrus, tropical, melon, orchard fruit and herb rolls off of the rim like citronella and coconut. Its soothing sweetness is framed by shortcake, wafer, honeysuckle and vanilla cream.
But those hops spring to life with a well melded fruitiness that ranges from pink grapefruit, valencia orange, lemon and grape to papaya, pineapple, passionfruit and pawpaw. The flavors of coconut, cream, nectarine and wine can never be ruled out as they ebb and flow throughout the session. Trending satisfyingly bitter, the hops open up to a minty, herbal and gin-like spruciness with stronger suggestions of pine, lemon pepper and cannabis late in taste.
Full in body but relaxing as the bitterness aids in dryness, the plush mouthfeel finishes on the bitter side of bittersweet with a longer extension of hop bitterness than is usual for such hazy styles. Although its hard to dissect such a complex hop regimen, the "C" hops dovetail nicely into a full and fruity session that also carries a firm bitterness.
