APPEARANCE
Light orange in color with a relatively, but not the haziest body I've ever seen. The pour produced almost three fingers of dense, fluffy, white head
AROMA
Some subtle orange notes and the vanilla beans are likewise slightly muted. A nice touch of bitterness to boot.
TASTE
I was expecting a lot more of a citrus presence on the taste, it's here, but just only enough to make itself known. However, there is a massive amount of hop bitterness and hop juice to drive any hope head crazy. Just as massive are those vanilla beans. It's like a whipped cream topping on top of a deliciously bitter DIPA.
MOUTHFEEL
Nice and full with lingering bitterness. Easy to put down for an 8% DIPA and a decadent dessert beer.
OVERALL
Very similar to the Tree House Creamsicle, Smooth Seas has the explosive bitter hop presence combined with just as much vanilla that breweries put into their Imperial Stouts. I mean, I know "Vanilla Double IPA" is not a thing yet, but based on beers like this, it should be a thing.
