There are secrets to every beer, secrets that give each beer an identity, a uniquness and a special standout flavor. And for the normal fruity IPA makers of Vitamin Sea, their secrets are herbal and bitter.

That's Classified pours more traditionally golden than usual and with a common hazy appearance. As its frothy eggshell cap builds on the rim, the peppery and earthy scent of dried citrus, stone fruit, dank tropical and herb gives the beer an earthy perfume. Lighter on sweetness, hints of steely caramel, bread crust and granola nuttiness lead the malty way.

The middle palate shows a shift from fruit and to herb. As the citrusy taste of white grapefruit link up with bitter orange, lime and lemon, the lightness of apricot and papaya seem more of their peels than of their pulp. A trend toward the herb leads to a patchouli laced bitterness of lemon pepper, mint, black tea, arugula and peppery kale before a strikingly sprucy and cannabis-laden taste sets in.

Medium bodied, dry and spicy with hops, the beer's dry and bitter focus is odd for hazy ale as its bite is astringent and vegetal with a long grassy, hemp-like and sprucy tea aftertaste.
