Not a stout indeed, but still a nice beer.

This has more in common with a belgian dark ale than a stout. Still has some of that roasted malt flavor. Comparable to the Gulden Draak Stout. But that one is better. Still a fine beer. As a stout, there are better options.

The last one in the row "that tastes like beer" bright dark with multicolored foam, scent of sugar and plum show of wood, in the dark dark dark mites and esters that last a while

This bottle came as part of a six bottle array of Dutch beers that I got at a grocery store in Emmeloord, Netherlands.
Pours into glass with a fizzy, small head which quickly dissipates to nothing. Very dark color, as expected for a stout.
Very little odor that I can detect (but have a cold right now), so a neutral rating.
Fizzes in mouth, with chocolate and caramel notes, but otherwise a bit thin for a stout. Slightly bitter. Fizziness lessens the longer it's in the glass.
Overall, not a brew that I would seek out again, but not the worst I've ever had.

Got this one as a gift from doopie. Not sure what to think of that…
From a bottle into a snifter
Best before 30 October 2016
Aged on oak barrels
APPEARANCE: Clear, light brown pour leaves a 1+ finger, medium-thinner, foamy, off-white head with decent retention. Perfectly clear maroon brown with no carbonation evident. This is easily the most lightly colored “stout” I’ve ever seen. Head slowly fades to a full wisp and clings to the sides of the glass.
SMELL: Dried dark fruits, green apples, some woody aromas and leather notes. Nothing stout about this.
TASTE: Follows nose with dried dark fruits and some wood up front, some leather at the swallow, then a medium but lingering finish of green apples, dark fruits, some leather and light notes of sweet wood. Not all that great and certainly not a stout.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher carbo. A touch foamy on the palate, goes down fine with a bit of a scratch at the swallow and finishes a touch mouth-coating. A bit of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is a half-decent beer at best, but as a stout, it’s nothing short of an abomination. It’s like these guys tried to brew a stout without ever having drunk a stout before. I can’t imagine what was going through their head here. I doubt there’s even any roasted barley in it. You’d think you’d at least drink a few half-decent stouts first, and then when you notice your miscalculated mistake looks, smells and tastes completely different, you’d either throw in the towel, or rebrand the brew. In any case, this is horrible. Never drink this beer.
