This beer is spiced with gagel, the old ingredient before hop was discovered. Lindeboom also added hops to give the beer the nessasary bitterness.
Appearance is good, a bright, brown beer with a creamy head which sticks to the glass with every sip.
Smell is malty with sweet spices. A caramel smell with a little dextrinous malt form the basis of this beer. As a complemtary smell there is the gagel, which gives the beer a herbal and slightly medicinal smell. Not bad at all.
Taste is sweet malty with a good bitter and a caramellic sauce over it. The spices really make this an interesting beer which is probably bottom fermented, given the clean profile. I am not sure if I only taste the gagel, but there is a slight musty, but spicy taste. It tastes like one of those herb teas, that don't contain any tea. A little green and a bit astringent, but certainly different from other beers and worth tasting. Mouthfeel is a little sweet and aftertaste is gone very quickly. Drinkability is good though.
