Pint, on draft
Pours a small, half finger head into a pint glass. Somewhat hazy yellow colored body. Head retention is good. Good looking beer so far.
My nose is somewhat stuffy. But the aroma here is small regardless. Very light grassy hops. Nothing offensive, but not much here. Nice malt profile, not too sweet or overwhelming, but it's there. A little caramel. The aroma is improving. Overall it's not bad.
The flavor is, eh, ok. Oatmeal is there, just barely, I don't know how well it compliments this beer. Hops are there, in a medium quantity. Somewhat sharp and strait forward hop flavor, not too complex. I suppose that's ok for a pale. But I would prefer a more flavorful hop selection. It certainly has bite though. Not sweet at all on the flavor, very one sided; again, that's ok with me for a pale. Overall this is actually a pretty well done, clean pale. I would simply like a more flavorful hop profile. For that reason, it's not bad.
The mouthfeel is perfect. The carbonation is spot on - just lingering above medium, it's a lively mouthfeel. The hops add bite and some character to the mouth. Bitterness lingers only for a second. Well done here.
The drinkability is pretty good. For an assertively hopped beer, it's not too hard to put down.
The appearance was quite nice. The head had very good retention, and the lacing was thick, all the way down. The body was odd, a little light in color for a pale, but not bad. The head was small, but that was probably just the tenders doing.
Overall this beer is pretty well done, I appreciate the quality. As for me, it's just a hair off my preferred taste for a pale, but I'll survive, it's pretty good.
