Logyard Brewing "Loggers' Holiday"
16 fl. oz. can; freshness ink jet coding is illegible
$4.25 @ Wegmans, Collegville, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: A cloudy golden-orange body is capped by a two finger thick head of rocky foam. There's particulate in suspension but I'm not seeing any bubbles rising. Obviously there are but I can't see them through the haze. The head is slowly collapsing but at this point I have to say that the head retention is excellent. The aroma is brightly citrusy and piney. I'm getting tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, and some floral notes as well. It's nicely done so far. The flavor follows pretty much to a T. The malt is the usual 2-row/wheat/oat thing although I'm getting more of the wheat than the oats. That doesn't matter as long as it's sweet and doesn't interfere with the hop notes. There's more pineapple, and some additional pine, but the orange, grapefruit, and floral character remain. I almost feel like there's a note of coconut in there as well but I might be imagining it. It's not that bitter leaving it sweet up front but the pine, hop resins, and alcohol are enough to bring it to a dry, lingering finish. In the mouth it's medium bodied and velvety smooth with a lot of extra proteins and fine-bubbled, moderate carbonation. There's no new ground being broken with this NEIPA but it is slightly unique, and very pleasant and quaffable.
