From a 16oz can, dated 09/18/23. Served in a tulip glass.
Pours a rich chestnut-black, unhighlighted, with a finger of latte-like foam. The head holds up for most of a minute, leaving a wispy cap, a thick, creamy collar and an easily roused sheet of sudsy lacing.
Nose is mildly sweet and roasty. Aroma of milk chocolate and roasted peanuts - although, so far as I know, no peanuts died in the brewing of this beer. More chocolatey than coffee. Less mocha java, more Mr. Goodbar.
Taste is creamy-rich with bitter roastiness. Espresso coffee bitterness and smooth, chocolatey richness. Chicory, fruitcake and a dry, stick-like earthiness.
Feel is smooth with the perception of foaminess? a creamy-rich body with moderate fine, tingly carbonation. I realize that I’ve said ‘creamy-rich’ for both the taste and the mouthfeel but, really, they’re inseparable.
Overall, an impressive ‘imperial milk stout.’ Equally impressive is that there is zero perceived booziness in either the taste or the mouthfeel - as a result of which I have sucked down 16oz of 12% abv beer in the time it took me to right this little review and so now I’m going to need to just sit here for a few minutes.
