they call this a lager so by rule then it cant be a hefeweizen also, as its here listed, but it sure presents like one, hazy, wheaty, and with the citrus element popping, a nice beer, a little dense for the drinkability i was expecting, but i enjoyed this quite well with sushi. brassy colored and murky but with an airy white head from the tap and fine lace as it drinks. a nose of fresh squeezed orange and orange blossom honey, all in on that note, i dont smell lager yeast, its starchy and grainy, a bit sugary to me, floral, peppy, springy, inviting. the flavor is good and i am pleased with how honey forward it is, its really natural and genuine in this, and the orange is right there with it, not over flavored but robust. it does leave sweetness on the tongue the whole drink, and it has quite a lot of wheat character, fuller and kind of bready underneath it all, not that light, and i cant help thinking this could be cleaner and more delicate the flatter the flavors a little better and yield a real pint beer, but as it is, its kind of overly hearty, and it makes it seem not as refined as it could be. carbonation is just a bit light, which doesnt help. fortunately the honey and orange are awesome, they make this what it is. if it is indeed a lager id like it lighter and faster finishing, there really isnt any evidence of it being lagered. overall though i liked this, found it unique, and enjoyed it with the sushi. my first beer from these guys.
