I haven’t written a review in several years but this got me back here. Outstanding IPA with a twist. Was very skeptical when I saw it in the menu but wow
L: Hazy, unfiltered look, pours gold with slight head to it. Looks more like a unfiltered Belgian tripel than a regular IPA.
S: smells great. Rich strawberry fruitiness with a slight hint of grain. Not overpowering but definitely gets you ready for the taste
T: money maker here. It’s so well crafted. Was expecting a more gimmicky taste with overpower strawberry notes but was thoroughly impressed with the melding of strawberry and hoppy IPA bitterness. The up front bitter flavors of your classic IPA are slowly whisked away with a strawberry aftertaste that leaves this as a surprisingly drinkable, non gimmicky beer.
F: bitter in the right ways, sweet in the right ways. An enjoyable beer to drink. Lactose smooths the beer out quite a bit to make it very drinkable
O: yeesh. I wanted to not like it given that Labatt is not a favorite beer of mine, and it’s gimmicky concept. However I walked away almost immediately wanting another because of how subtle and well put together it was. If you’re in the area and it’s still a beer on tap, it’s worth checking out FOR SURE. An awesome twist on an IPA that managed to separate itself in terms of not overdoing itself with sweetness, and not doing enough with its selected fruit flavor. In a world where more citrus IPAs are popping up with regularity this one might be one of the most Impressive I’ve tasted.
