Claremont Pilsner

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a three finger white head that dissipated to a thick film with light lacing. Aroma of pilsner malt, grassy and citrus hops, lemon, some light summer herb spicing. Flavor is pilsner malt, citrus hops, saison yeast, lemon, grapefruit and rosemary; somewhat tart. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This was a mixed experience for me; I liked the lighter citrus hops and rosemary add an interesting earthy spice character, but there is some unexpected tartness that maybe the herbs but tastes a lot like a farmhouse/saison yeast to me. I don't seek out grassy continental hops much any more, so the citrus was fine, if not traditional for a pilsner. But not sure the light sour note is much like a pilsner character. It is interesting and refreshing, but didn't work for me.The initial pour and head were great, but disappeared fairly quickly.

 

On tap at the brewery. Pours golden with white head. Taste and aroma of grassy hops and biscuit malt. Medium crisp body. Long dry finish. Nice brew.
