Taking what's best about the more Bohemian lager of the Czech Republic and then adding an element of roast, Persuasion Brewing's Czech-style dark lager has all the things that's loved about schwarzbier but with a heftier backbone.
Valle hits the glass with a dark, bark-like brown hue that's gentlemanly and deep in its appearance. As a creamy and soft tan foam builds on the rim, the roasty scent of columbian-styled coffee, smoldering embers and a general cocoa scent carries into a medium sweetness of honey, light sorghum and light chocolate.
Much of the sweetness fades on the middle palate while the balance shifts to toasty, roasty and drier tastes. Hints of smoked cocoa, toasted nuttiness and firmly burnt toast supplant the sweetness for a creamy dryness built around its roasty elements. A broad and spicy bitterness balances the roast and fledgling sweetness for a reinforced flavor of coffee.
Medium bodied and hinting toward fuller textures than the standard schwarzbier, this creamier dark lager carries the smoothness of lagered beer but an elevated character that nears that of brown ale. Valle finishes malty-dry and with a medium length extension of soft roast and light woodsy bitterness in tow.
