For any Lager, even moreso for a Maibock, it was foamy pours that entirely emptied two twelve ounce cans into a clear glass liter mug. For its style, the brew is much lighter and clearer with its amber color. Maibocks are generally ruddier. The smell disappoints as much as the visual, nearly absent of the rich barley malt that creates a good Maibock. The foamy, then quickly thin light biege head doesn't add points to the look. Nor does the scant glass lacing. At least to taste, there's some pronounced malty sweetness, but it's shallow, not rich. The hop flavor is nice for the style. Despite the lack of complexity within the malt contribution to the taste, there's more than enough present to provide a rich and smooth mouthfeel. The complaints about overly sweet and less than complex taste transitions are out weighed by the balance of malt and hops, as well as a remarkable mouthfeel. It's not perfect, but it's slightly closer than further from it.
