an awesome little funky bretty hoppy pale or saison type, really smart beer, a little young, no apparent wood or anything, but a nice fermentation profile, some soft citrus to the hops, and a beer that i could drink all day every day from here on out. i liked all the beer in here, but it was the yeasty ones that turned me on the most, and this was a cool one. the whole thing is real mellow, but it works, like the brett peaks in and out, the hops are flavorful and fresh without being bitter, and the beer is just interesting enough to hold my attention while while not being robust or weird enough to slow me down, i could drink a fair bit of this one if left alone with it. i like the kiwi fruit and green grape notes in the hops, the grassy noble herbal thing too, and the funk, which seems to increase as i let this warm. i bet this will age well, but i have no intention of not drinking it now either. rarely are these new school bretty hoppy beers this good, sometimes subtlety is sexy, and thats the case here. this is not wild but well refined, a familiar brett strain and profile but bone dry and lively and good in here, saison-esque, with some citrus forward new wave hops, it just works. if you want an interesting and compelling beer that you can drink all day, this is it. im in love with rockwell right now! this is funky and subtle and good, i need ten of them!
edit: finally popped bottle from original visit to this place, more than three years old now, and now, the hops and fruitiness has fallen off in favor of big mature brett, not young anymore! brux-esque, hints of lemon, wet dog, and white printer paper, some new concrete too, and high mineral character. at the center it seems almost a little underflavored, but its funky in the best way, absolutely zero acidity, shocking in the world of mixed fermentation stuff, and for being this old, there isnt a trace of lacto to be found. amazing. really unique, opens up well, and although way different, every bit as good as when i first had it, shades of orval if i am being super generous...

From a thick, tall Belgian bottle, this brew is a hazy yellow color. The aroma is funky, with some esters and wild fruit. The semi-dry and bitter with some yeast and wild flavors. Full in body and interesting.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Teku glass. Pale straw color with a decent white head. A small amount of lacing. Barnyard and horse blanket, a lot of the Belgian yeast. Soft and delicate texture, pillowy and dry. You get that usual Belgian funkiness and earthiness typical of the style on the sip. Pretty solid Belgian ale.
