while i enjoyed the more experimental or ambitious beers i had from these guys the most, i was equally impressed with this classically styled stout, its amazing how many hats these guys are already wearing well! this is shiny and slick black in the glass from the tap, deep looking without an intimidating viscosity or anything. aroma and flavor feature lots of roast and accompanying bitterness, there are coffee and dark cocoa notes as well, a baking chocolate thing, but also a cool almost fruity nuance like from good espresso crema, raisin and even plum in here to me, some mild middle malt sweetness but not heavy caramels or toffees like a lot of these have, which keeps the body and the drinking overall kind of light for a stout, yet its also robust enough for the chilly autumn weather right now, this didnt seem thin or light or anything either. some nice balance to this, maybe some oats or even rye in the grain, its not one dimensional roasty, there is more going on here, even a slightly bready almost english element to the yeast i think as it warms. this is soothing to drink, feels like a nice comforting hug, and has a pleasant linger on the palate with notes of milk chocolate and drip coffee there. great recipe but even better execution, this is expertly brewed. these guys are on fire!
