You will notice the dark richness of this Scottish Imperial Stout the minute it hits your glass. Then, the smokey peat fills the air. Lil’ SIPS is a Scottish Imperial Peated Stout aged in Peated Whiskey Barrels. Bitter chocolate, vanilla, and smoke are ever present in this bold 10.5% imperial stout. Sláinte!

A can pour at the brewery.
Very dark, a thin layer of head without lacing.
The nose is faint, roasted malt and peat.
The palate is dark charred caramelized malt, the smokey peat almost takes place of hops bitterness in the flavor profile and is a major aspect in the character of this beer.
The whiskey notes are pleasant, and make it an enjoyable brew to roll around on the tongue. The dark chocolate and vanilla notes are enjoyable as well.

A very interesting Scottish Imperial Stout.

Draught pint (was supposed 2b a 12oz snifter, BUT I am NOT complaining) at The Brass Tap here in Baltimore: Very dark brown body w/o any head when delivered to me - slight ring & transitory lacing hint at a tan head. Peat on nose & tongue. There's also chocolate & malt there. Solid body w/lower level of carbonation, and a pleasant coating. Looking for a darker wee heavy? Than this is your beer.

5 oz pour at the brewery. Holy smokes - they are not kidding about this being "peated." It's like an intensely peated Scotch. Behind the peat is whisky, dark malt, vanilla, and quite a bit of sweet/rotten/overripe fruit. Much more dark fruit than is typically present in an imperial stout, and it doesn't quite work for me. However, it is definitely an interesting beer and I give the folks at 1623 Brewing props for making me think.
