L- Deep chestnut brown, pours clear with a 5mm pale tan head of ultra fine bubbles. ps holds very well.
S- A subtle depth, there is a smell that is both distinctive yet subtle - it reminds me of the wheat note in a Wit/Weissbier.
T- Some initial dryness (hops) and off into roasty/toasty notes. Then some richness, briefly, and back off into roasty, finishing with (get this!) what feels like a lick of alcohol across my palate, and it's only 4.8% - huh?
F- Deep yet bright, if that conveys. Put another way, this would be superb for a 'Guess the ABV%' on a friend, as it packs waaay more in than you'd expect from an average 4.8%. Carbonation is great.
O- This certainly well exceeded by expectations, waaay exceeded them in fact. Who'd have thought from a Belgium Abbey-single (style) brewed in Sheffield/UK and offered up in, in relative terms, understated packaging.
A lovely beer, zero 'wrong' to note here. I'm glad I had this on a clean palate as at 4.8% I anticipated subtlety. Instead I got to notice the different taste/feel/ABV aspects pinballing all around my palate - a treat with a good beer, and esp at this ABV%
440ml can Bought from TremblingMadness/York BBE: March-2021
