Stopped in today to try this new Barleywine... bartender said I was the first person to order one. A 10oz pour is $5.00. Said it's made with molasses and 40 pounds of brown sugar.
Color is a clear, rich amber. Has little to no head to speak of, just some fine beige foam at the rim. Had a mild aroma, with some light sweetness present. Body is a decent medium, with nice smoothness.
Flavor has a hint of sweetness, but nowhere near what I expected of a molasses/brown sugar recipe. It is a bit more on the fruity side, almost as if it needs a bit more conditioning. I find it somewhat "green", overall. Has some citrus in the finish, but does not quite have the pithy or rindy aspect to qualify as an American Barleywine, imo. Maybe I'll try it again, if it's on, in a month or so... Prosit!!
