This is my first beer from Nightmare, and this is honestly a pretty exciting starting point. I love mango in a beer when done right, and the inclusion of these less common fruits. I’ve had soursop before but I’m not familiar with lulo. This should be perfect for one of the warmest days of the year so far, let’s dive right in

Pours a cloudy deep gold with 2 fingers of soapy off white head yhat slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves no lacing

Oh hell yeah, this is vibrant and tart in the nose, very citrussy. I’m picking up on aromas of mango skin, orange zest, pineapple juice, lime zest, crackery malt, lemon juice, sea salt, light soursop, and grass

It’s translates perfectly in taste, just as bright and refreshing. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting mango skin, orange zest, lime juice, papaya, crackery malt, honey, soursop, and strawberry. The swallow brings notes of mango skin, lemon juice, soursop, kiwi, lime zest, sea salt, crackery malt, orange juice, and a touch of coriander

A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a tad sticky but the tartness dries it out

This is fun and refreshing take on the style. Not traditional but still damn good

Another great fruited sour from Nightmare but it really didn't stand out maybe because it wasn't really sour or sweet just in the middle? Don't know what Lulo or Soursop is but it's in there. Cool cover art regardless!

16 ounce can into a stange glass. Canned 12/15/20, had 4/22/21.

Pours a cloudy, pale yellow orange, with a big, quickly dissipating head on an average pour and some foamy lacing. Aromas of mango, malt, some citrus- maybe orange, light funk, hint of lime, light caramel as it warms. Smells somewhat sour, has a little bit of a berry aroma. The flavor is also somewhat sour, with mango, citrus, some salt, light malt, lime mostly in the aftertaste. Also has a little bit of a berry like taste, with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Smooth, a good lighter body and for all the carbonation up front with the big head, it drinks a little flat.

Can’t say I had a good feel for this one. I wouldn’t know a soursop if you handed it to me. I have had a beer that was fruited with only lulo, which was good and way more sour than this. Here, the mango was good, the lulo didn’t stand out and the lime and salt were hit or miss. Liked this overall, but it’s not as solid and complex as the other offerings I’ve had from Nightmare.

Delicious gose! Mango taste up front, lime zest aftertaste. Not overly sour, would make a nice excellent margarita!

19 May 2020 - Beer #98

Corona Day #68

Price: $5.99 at Clinton Gourmet Corp. in Manhattan

Appearance: 4 - a pale yellow-orange. Not much head, but pretty good lacing.

Nose: 4 - not a ton going on, but what is there is extremely busy and fruity.

Taste: 4 - not bad at all, but nothing special. Mostly lime. Really not very sour.

Mouth: 4 - tingly, but not too bubbly.

Overall: 4 - more innocuous than cromulent. An approachable sour.

Cheers!

-Gose ale soured by mangoes, lulo, soursoup and columbian lime zest.

A: Beautiful hazy sunset orange has a feverish pitch of effervesce within, composed of micro-bubbles that were densely packed. The head is a thick and beefy, a solid foam structure of 2.5 inches high with some clumpy bonding and texture. Head stability is strong, well lasting, always leaving something for coverage.

S: Big nose of tropical pineapple-mangoes. Some fruity watermelon and juicy lime juice interact with a smooth orange-citrus juice like flair of good strength. Very well lasting, evenly balanced, and very wet and fresh in nature.

T: The flavor delivered on all the aspects and expectations of the nose. Big smooth sourness, tropical pineapple-mangoes are fruity and slightly tart. Notes of juicy watermelon and lime combine as well. A softness of wheat malt and citrus, bring a nice feel and flavor along with some sour oranges that follow. A juicy tartness that was very well balanced and portrayed.

M: Good fullness, sharp crispness from the alert carbonation, has a very smooth feel none the less. Fruity sourness sting on the tongue.

O: Overall a Gose that hits that Goldilocks zone in terms of sourness and balance. Big juicy tropical tart flavor, with a citrusy-lime zing and sourness on the close. Great first impression from the start with a strong finish as well. Outstanding drink-ability, nose, and flavor combine to make this a must try by style and an outstanding mention all around.
