probably not rightly an american blonde, but i dont know where else this would fit, its an ale not a lager i believe, which is part of what makes it different, and its not rightly a kolsch i dont think, but the german malt is certainly the central aromatic and flavor agent, arguably my least favorite beer we had in their restaurant, but not because its bad, mostly because of how good the other three were! this is golden colored beer thats easy enough to drink but actually not all that light. this seems like european pils malt more than anything else, crackery and bready and fairly expressive even sturdy here, good minerality underneath, i think the nose and taste are fairly similar. it lacks the kind of crispness a classic pils brings, but to me is actually a bit more flavorful than their extremely light pils they do here, light on hops but with a fuller grain presence the whole way. subtle honey without being sweet, dried floral character to the bit of hops that are here, and mostly only german to me from the malt, the ferment is pretty mild really. it doesnt warm up super well, some light astringency coming out and perhaps the grain taking over the balance a bit, but i dont mind what it does here and find the little longer journey a delightful one, dont miss the crisper lager feel, plenty of beers do that, and while this kind of tastes like a helles, it flows a little more, lingers a bit, and its pleasant overall. interesting but approachable.
