Night Kitchen is viscous, and as jet black as anything I've seen. The head is dense, the color of coffee and cream, and boasts good retention.
Yep, it smells like s'mores. Taking a sniff, the first thing I smell is marshmallow. There are also the expected aromas of graham crackers and smooth, sweet milk chocolate. A faint whiff of roasted grains brings up the rear. There also seems to be just a hint of damp earth coming through in the center, giving the nose a little bit of backbone. All things being equal, Night Kitchen S'mores smells somewhat like a bigger version of a milk stout.
Flavors are a little more complicated. Night Kitchen's flavors are rich and deep, definitely tasting of dark, roasted grains. Somewhere in the middle is the flavor of sweet, milk chocolate. Hints of damp earth and more notable flavors of graham cracker lend support without making the flavors too deep or complex. The finish is slightly roasted and bitter, before fading easily into the background
.
It's a solid imperial stout that walks the line between flavorful and too intense. It also walks the line between good and gimicky, which I almost appreciate more. The brewers seem to know how to make a beer like this tasty without making it so full and complex you can't drink it. So well done, overall.

Appearance - Pours a dark chocolate syrup brown with three fingers of foamy tan head.
Smell - Roasted malts, dark chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow, earthy hops, vanilla extract.
Taste - Chocolatey roasted malts upfront, along with hints of vanilla marshmallow and graham wafer. Mild earthy hops bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied with light carbonation. Silky smooth on the palate.
Overall - A great addition to the Night Kitchen family with this imperial take on the pastry stout. Would love to taste more marshmallow and graham cracker, but maybe I'll just pair this with a homemade s'more.
