A year ago we traded BFF necklaces with our good friends at Eighty-Eight Brewing Company and set our sights on a glorious collaboration.
The talented brew teams at Cabin and '88 built the recipe for Love Shack together, then each brewed their own version.
We started with a wonderfully hazy, super soft malt bill, added a load of passionfruit as big as a whale and then dry-hopped the living bejeebus out of it with Galaxy, Vic Secret, Cryo Mosaic and Cryo Sabro hops.
Think of it as tropical aromatherapy, with a citrus chaser, mixed with a delightfully tart little twist of passionfruit. Juicy? Yes. Tasty? HECK YES!
While it’s the same recipe and same ingredients, each beer is slightly different – so be sure to try both!

A hazy passionfruit IPA.
Cabin's version of their collaboration with '88.
Appearance - Pours a hazy peach with three fingers of frothy white head.
Smell - citrus and tropical hops, hint of passionfruit, mango, citrus, papaya, peach, bready malts, and earthy yeast.
Taste - citrus and tropical hops upfront. The passionfruit is there but the '88 version is more predominant with the passionfruit, The mango, citrus, papaya, and peach follow suit. The bready malts and earthy yeast round out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the hops and fruits lingering.
Overall - A flavourful NE IPA but the passionfruit is missing in this one. I'm not sure if that was Cabin's intent but to me, this is a tad disappointing. I prefer '88's version but that's just me.
