Luna and Feugo Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout is the perfect slow sipper - and our latest version has been aged in tequila barrels for extra complexity! We started with an imperial stout and added cocoa, cinnamon,, and vanilla, then spiked it with three types of chilies - sweet ancho, smoky chipotle and tangy guajillo. Once fermented, the beer was transferred to oak barrels used to condition tequila to chill for seven months and soak up the barrel character.

The cocoa and chili marry perfectly to create a decadently sweet and lingering spice heat. Subtle tequila notes pair with strong oak and dried fruit flavours, with vanilla and cinnamon on the nose giving notes of horchata. It's impossible to tell where the warming alcohol begins and the chili heat ends. Did we mention it's smooth? Ridiculously so. Salud!

Pours a very dark brown, swaying to black with minimal brown head.
Aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, and chocolate with hints of pepper spice and a clear waft of tequila.
Flavour follows - sweet chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla up front but with a combination of spicy pepper heat and heat from the tequila/booziness. Some dark fruit notes.
Medium full mouthfeel - carbonation I think is moderate, but perhaps hidden by the boozy kick sitting on the palate along with a soft residual pepper heat. I did not have the Rye barrel version, but this is quite good.
