i think they use this brew for thought name for a series of beers that benefit the food for thought project, very cool. this one is a pretty dark brown ale as a base, its made with what must be a ton of coffee beans, and its relatively hoppy too, a pretty unique brew, impressive in quality and uniqueness, i liked this place a whole lot. the color is more porter looking than brown ale, a really deep color to this, decent tan head on it, nice and fizzy, not much viscosity. the aroma is awesome, a cold brew coffee vibe, low acid but dark roast, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco notes to it, a little malt sweetness to soften it, some light spruce from the hops, definitely cool with the coffee. the flavor is similarly coffee driven, at least as much java character as beer character in this, smooth and rich and strong, and i love the hops kicking up early in here, a lemon note almost like the italians put in espresso, and then more of a piney back end, a little bit of bitterness double jeopardy with the coffee intensity, but i love it, especially in a beer this low in alcohol that still remains balanced. light toffee in the middle, deep earthiness too along with some sweet lift, and the whole thing is really smooth and long in texture, cleanly fermented, and bold but not aggressive. downright awesome beer here, maybe my favorite i had from these guys, and it shows both high ambition and technical proficiency, i was delightfully impressed by this place! love the coffee in this.
