Month-old can poured into an Old Fashioned glass.
Pale gold coloring with a moderate chill haze and a nice warm glow, but clearly not intended to be a hazie beer. Modest off-white head with average retention and spotty lacing. But of a West Coast / East Coast hybrid in term of look.
The hybrid theme continues with an outstanding and unique nose, blending citrus, tropical, and stone fruits, grape and berry salad, honeysuckle, sweet bready malts, a little pine, and a wonderful lightly-dank grassiness. One of those beers where there isn’t a standout note and it’s not overly in your face, but the variety and balance of notes strikes just the right cord. Wonderful mix of West Coast influence with a very juicy overlay that scratches both itches.
Taste comes pretty close to matching the smell, but isn’t quite as refined and complete. Heavy fruit juice up front, this time leaning more towards overripe tropical fruit, with a good grapefruit pith in the background. Bready and a little weedy. A bigger pine and resin note on the tongue, and a heavier green and mineral characteristic. Easy drinking and very tasty, but not nearly as eye- (or tongue-) catching as the aroma profile.
Pretty average feel, neither thin nor sunstantive, with solid coating but zero stickiness and an aftertaste that leans largely towards pith and bitterness.
