I am convinced that my first experience with this beer was an infected batch somehow. What I drank was not a wheat ale. It tasted more like a cider and looked like one too.

I said to the beer afficianado that was seated next to me that it didn't taste right and so he asked for a taster. Sure enough, he proclaimed the batch infected and told the bartender to let the boss know.

I know that things happen but they are seriously lacking in quality control if they allow infected beer to be served at their tap. I enjoyed their IPA very much, and I'm not bashing this place. Their pints were ridiculously affordable. I just had a bad experience with their American Wheat.

I live right around the corner from CJ's... My first beer with them was the red, but I found the wheat, and I must say.... It is one of my all time favorite beers. I think it has a great taste, and is very refreshing. This beer goes great with anything they have on the menu. It has a rich full taste.

I have had the American Wheat on-tap at CJ's many times, it is definitely a decent offering (their IPA is the best beer there though). The American Wheat has a yellowish color with a nice amount of suspended yeast floating around. The head is almost non-existent with a small white cap that lasts about 3/4 of the beer, the lack of head is probably due to the inclusion of a lemon wedge on the side of the glass (acid does not agree with heads). This is a very easy to drink and solid brew. Flavor is sweet and consists of malted wheat, bakers yeast, and a hint of citrus with no complexities to speak of. Hops are non-existent.
They recently changed the formulation of the American Wheat and now it is closer to a Weizenbock in flavor and ABV, I feel it has gotten worse.

I will get the IPA instead.
