Originally reviewed on May 7, 2006. On Tap at the brewpub. Pour of hazlenut liqeur, with a fringe of orange sunset. Head of slimy off-white. Light sweet malt aroma. Flavor is an extremely rich and creamy sweet nutty sugar. Fairly plain and straightforward, pretty vanilla (there’s some in there too). Light plum and pear alcohols. Sugary and cloying. Lacks depth, complexity and intrigue. Finishes with a light banana. Sickly sugary in the end.

A great rendition of the style here, poured a rich deep crimson with a thinner but well retained white head.Aromas of caramel malt, brown sugar and alcohol were not faint they were there and pronounced.Nice intertwining of malty flavors starting out with a mollases and brown suger note holding up well to a nice lightly sweet doughy backbone finishing with a alcohol zip that dosent overpower just warms nicely.Nice to find a well brewed American doppelback and what a better place to find it other than Frakenmuth?
