Pours a thick gloopy black with huge creamy mocha-colored head that has great retention and leaves lots of lacing. Nose is dense with citrus and pine buds, resin and then some faint roasted black malt sneaks out. Palate is super bright and really friggin' hoppy! Lots of pine needles, sap, pink grapefruit and dusty "oregano." Some thin roasted dark malts come through, but the palate is medium bodied and crisp, keeping the malt character surprisingly light.
This, my friends, is what a Black IPA should be. Perhaps the best one I've had yet.
