A gift from one of my bartenders, who knows I am not a fan of the milkshake IPA style. No date on the can, poured into a tulip.

Appearance: Very hazy, golden beer. Minimal head with an aggressive pour, dissipating to absolutely nothing within ten seconds. As I get further through the can, chunks are appearing in my glass. Oh god. The bottom of the can is absolute sludge, even though I rolled it. The further I get into the can, the more this score keeps going down.

Smell: Vanilla dominates on the nose. A few hops poke through to fight with the vanilla, but quickly lose the battle. Minor citrus notes. Hops and vanilla remain a very strange combination. Minor hit of alcohol on the nose at the end.

Taste: Wow is this sweet. Cloying, aggressive sugar all over the palate. Vanilla is the primary early note along with sugar, moving into some citrus in the middle of the taste, which quickly fades. Citra and mosaic hops have been used according to the can, but with so many other things happening, their character doesn't stand out. Minor bitterness lingers as an aftertaste, along with sugar. Tons of sugar. The aftertaste of pure sugar and bitter is not overwhelming, but is uniformly unpleasant. The alcohol content is hidden well by the approximately 75 contradictory things that are fighting each other in my mouth.

Mouthfeel: Thick and syrupy right away, with almost a feeling of precipitate left after swallowing. None of that is good.

Overall: I mean, at least alcohol is involved. This is the best thing I can say about this beer. Why are milkshake IPAs a thing? None of these flavors compliment hops. Everything about this is a mess, and it tastes like someone made a bad soda with a bitter finish more than it tastes like a beer. Thanks Gunnar. I'm giving you a Central Waters Bourbon Pecan Kringle Stout in return, one of the worst beers I have ever had from a brewery I normally love. I look forward to your review.

Update: As I let it sit in my glass, not wanting to finish it, a continuing stream of chunks keep moving to the surface in the center if the glass, as if propelled by a current. What is this I don't even.
