Lobster and Pina Coladas
Tripping Animals Brewing
New England IPA
Date: Unknown
The can is a lobster with a refreshing beverage in its arms. I guess that beverage is a pina colada. I am no expert, but does a lobster enjoy any adult beverages? The beer is 40 degrees, and I used a tulip. The pour created a frothy and airy white head with fair retention. The quick dissipation did leave a minuscule amount of lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 6, a straw yellow hue with a golden orange glow. A hazy beer with yeast floaties. The appearance of the beer is average, with a poor head.
Oh lord, what I have I gotten myself into. The first whiff of the beer presented coconuts and pineapple, aka Pina Colada. The fruit aromas are pungent and have a somewhat chemical note to them. Taking several more sniffs, I get oranges and a touch of floral. The coconut and pineapple aromas dominate the nose. I usually detect the malts, but I get nothing.
Wow, words elude me! Huge pineapple and coconut, then the hops creep in there and say hi. The hops are floral, herbal, grassy, and orange peel. Once that fabulous combination blends with that iconic combination, my palate waves the white flag. I have taken four sips, and I cannot take anymore.
The mouthfeel is sweet and sticky. The body is medium, has medium carbonation, and has an odious finish.
Brewers do weird things, thinking this is a great idea. This beer is unnatural; I personally think it is a bad idea. I will judge the beer on what it is. The beer should get a 2 but will probably do better than that.
