Of all breweries to do the overly fruited sours, I think Tripping Animals shows the most restraint, just riding the line of being over the top. This one sounds simple enough on paper, just apples for an adjunct. I’m not sure I’ve seen that before actually. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Oh man, I was not expecting that color. Pours a clear radiant green with 2 fingers of greenish white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is quite simple, apple forward of course. I’m picking up on aromas of tart apple, bready malt, orange juice, lemon zest, and white grape
It doesn’t get much more complex in taste, but it really doesn’t need to. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart apple, lemon juice, crackery malt, orange juice, light tea, and white grape. The swallow brings notes of tart apple, bready malt, lemon zest, orange juice, light caramel, and white grape
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp and tart beer. Finishes dry and tart, just like biting into an apple
It’s not amazing, but this is a damn fun beer. An alternate green beer to drink on St Patty’s perhaps?
