Oh! Things get so complicated. This is brewed by Bald Birds, but it's a collaborative effort with Boom City Brewing. The label says it's a double hazy IPA, with an AVB of 8.2%. So, is it an Imperial, or is it New England style IPA? The quandries drives one to drink. Opening a pint can and emptying its contents into a clear glass liter mug goes very well. There's a nice hop/malt aroma and there's no voluminous stark white foam associated with modern "IPA"s. It's not particularly pungent, but some bready malt and piney hops can be had. The brew is dull apricot-amber in color and it's opaque. The white head is modest and appears to be enduring. Although not a bold hit to the taste buds, there's more to the taste than to smell. This has a very nice blend of starchy sweetness, although some ales provide more complexity, with a nice combination of citrus-like and slightly piney hoppiness. The mild taste of alcohol is just right in adding another layer to the taste. The body is also just right for the amount of tastes and alcohol it delivers. So, the glass lacing might be almost as hard to find as this offering from two very modest (at the time of this post) Pennsylvanian breweries. If you can find it, it's a must try.
