16 oz can

Pours clear deep amber, yellowish head is fluffy and dissipates to suds.

Aroma of biscuit malts, caramel and mild pine.

Flavor is of mild cereal malts and pronounced spruce.

Medium body, light carbonation on the tongue.

There might be more going on in this beer, but the spruce overwhelms the flavor and yet isn't terribly potent. I'm left feeling like I am drinking a beer with a mouthful of tree so that I can't get at the beer flavor. The spruce isn't bad per se, but it's weird. Very earthy and sappy and clashes with the beer. All said I think this is drinkable and I am going to finish it, but it's a novelty at best for me and not something I'll have again.

Not sure what I was expecting, but this beer tastes like a mouthful of soil- or as another reviewer aptly observed: minty bread mold. I really wanted to like this, but I don’t think I can finish my glass. Will save the other half of the can so someone else can try it tomorrow.

Dark amber to brown with a fluffy khaki head

Right away this tastes like straight up bread mold. Reaching, there's a little toasty nut in the mild, medium-light body that finishes semi-wet, but it's just absolutely dominated by bread mold. Fuck. It's like minty penicillin.

Birdfish is by no means a perfect hits factory, but they're usually pretty solid. This is easily the worst I've had by them. And I've had spruce beers I've absolutely adored--Dogfish Head's Pennsylvania Tuxedo is one of the few beers by DFH that I still hold in high regard. But this? Just atrocious.
