This is darker amber than the Woodford version, nearing brown, with a moderate khaki head that settles to a creamy lily pad, and a collar that leaves stalactite lacing.
Also relative to the Woodford version, this is smoother and slightly sweeter, actually exuding a sweet herbal quality to it, but also some lightly peppery barrel. The beer itself seems richer and more complex, while one parallel component between the two versions is that interesting spritz of lemon. As it warms I even get a hint of milky kahlua--there he is!!
The rounder body is lightly crisp, finishing just dry with an unusually slight tingle on the tip of the tongue. There are fewer off-notes, or really no unpleasant notes whatsoever here, but I'm still left curious whether the flavoring additions were made prior to barrel aging, as they aren't very prominent.
