There comes a time in life to bet it all. Maybe it's moving to the City with no job, no prospects, but an undying desire to make it happen. For us, it was building Manhattan's Brewery. With no brand and no real precedent for what we're building, we nonetheless put everything we had on the next hand. Will the high-stakes bet work? We'll find out. But it's gonna be a damn fun game either way.

My wife and I hit up Torch & Crown while visiting NYC last month. A brewery right in Manhattan, can you believe it? It’s a neat space, not a night club really, but definitely with a younger crows. They’ve got a big metal bar and lots of wood and (faux) plant accents; there’s also a sizeable beer garden next to the main taproom. There are also numerous fermenters and other brewery equipment right there in the tap room, which I love to see. The bartenders were friendly and prompt.

On my visit they had about 10 beers on tap, including a pilsner, summer ale, three hazy IPAs, standard IPA, a hazy pale, maibock, and a guava / tangerine / passionfruit sour. The IPAs I had were solid, and while the pilsner isn’t perfect, it was perfectly cromulent for the style. I’m not certain they’re the only brewery in Manhattan, but I think they might be. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the city.

I had the fortune to visit on a Thursday night when the place was jammed, filled with an after-dinner crowd. Group after group. Perhaps more lively than I was ready for, but that says as much about me as it does about the venue.
Beers were decent, with friendly service. (They had to juggle a lot of personalities.) Glad I had the experience.

Located right in Union Square park in lower Manhattan. Indoor/outdoor beer garden. Food available. Usually some street music going on near by, or other markets/vendors. Beer was good but pricey.

Very cool spot in Manhattan, a few stops up from the World Trade Center. It's a bar/restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating that has a very young and energetic vibe to it. We went for dinner on a Thursday night, probably should have gotten a reservation, but that's on us and great service finding us a seat immediately without one. The quality of this place is very good, everything from the food to the beer was fresh and very well done. They had a little bit of everything in terms of food and the beer selection was really great. I really enjoyed this spot, and the names of the tanks in the main bar was just icing on the cake there.
