Pours a copper color, with a small and quickly dissipating white head. Pretty clear with minimal lacing. Smell is of very deep malt with bits of toffee and chocolate. There is a nice nutty fullness as well. The taste is dominated by malt at first. There is also a small amount of hop bitterness and the sting of alcohol. Not as full as I would have liked in the mouth. A bit watery. On the whole, this is a pretty good beer. Not even close to rivaling the better representations of the style--and that style seems more like a bock as the beer is called than a porter. Although it is a quite palatable brew, it is highly unmemorable.

Appearance - pours amber with moderate head that disappears, head is nice and creamy, little lacing. Aroma - floral. Taste - tangy feel - astringent, however pleasantly so. Overall - beer is fairly good however my review reflects the fact that I am probably not a fan of bocks. Appearance is noteworthy, noting pleasant colour and impressive head.

16.9 oz brown bottle poured into a snifter a cellar temp. The beer pours a clear amber with ruby highlights. A thin beige surface layer fades quickly to an edge layer only. Aroma is caramel malt and grain with some booze thrown in for good measure. First sip reveals a fizzy carbonation and slightly syrupy texture. Flavor is sweet brown sugar and caramel. Clean crisp beer with some spicy hops on the finish. No real booze on the drinking even though it is hinted at on the nose. An easy drinker and for < $2.00 a bottle very enjoyable. I will probably buy this again.

Pours a clear crimson body with a thin white head. Aromas of sweet malt and dark fruit mingle with a faint trace of hops. A nice sweet full body, elements of dark fruit-- slightly smoky even-- and a subdued bitterness. It is almost salty sweet. Smooth.
A respectable bock. The ABV is noticeable but not overwhelming. If I were a bock man I'd find a reliable source of this. The profile of a goat on the label is pretty sweet too.

Warm caramel with a beautiful coral glow when backlit, a truly stunning hue. Who says you can't judge a bock by its color? The large, golden brown sugar crown is a looker as well. It's heavily creamy and is already beginning to lay down thick, buttery lace. This is amazing looking beer.
The aroma brings things back down to earth. Literally. The dominant characteristic of the nose is a brown malt earthiness that isn't out of line for a bock, but neither is it anything special. Lightly musty hops add nothing of value. By the way, Baltic Porter? Uh... no.
Kozlak is a very nice version of the style. I don't know what's going on with the nose, but the beer makes a much better impression on the palate. It's earthily malty with a rustic, spicy flavor that sets it apart and gives it a 'harvest' flavor. I'd much rather drink a good bock while watching the autumn leaves fall that an Oktoberfest.
Mild cocoa-like flavors try to peek through... and fail. The malt wasn't roasted quite long enough, but then that's as it should be for the style. This bock tastes a little sweeter than most; a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Dark caramel, an oaky woodiness and a resiny, sandlewood spiciness are especially noted.
Warming brings about increased flavor intensity and increased viscosity, making the bottom half of the bottle even better than the top half. This is one case where I feel cheated out of that extra 0.8 oz. of beer. The body/mouthfeel is medium in a general sense with a rounded edges smoothness and a restrained amount of carbonation.
Kozlak Original Polish Bock is easily one of the best beers of this style that I've ever had. It's a more than pleasant surprise that I'd love to have access to on a regular basis. Bock lovers, and lovers of quality beer in general, should definitely seek this one out.

Pours a deep garnet with tan foam. Sticky lacing sheets form around the rim of the glass. Smell is sweet and spicy, like brandy and gingerbread. Initial taste is sweet toffee and roasted malt, which remains on the palate. Alcohol is more noticeable as it warms, blending with the existing flavors.
Style-wise, this feels like a bock on the edge of doppelbock territory, lacking a richer mouthfeel and roast malt character holding it back from the darkside. Weighty feel due to the malt sweetness.
Not too sessionable, but a solid choice if you are into bock beer.

Pours with a large thick head which disappears quickly. The aroma contains toffee, sweet malt and burned sugar. Very strong and clean ruby-like amber colour. This creamy bock has a faint taste of lemon zest and roasted malt. The finish is covered with sweet chocolate. Nice beer but kind of on the sweet side

Nice carmel amber with retained head, lots of lace . Fresh as expiry December 2006, thanks Biergman. Smell of roast and malt, taste is medium to thin and lots of carmel, initial roast and satisfying, with bit of bittersweet aftertaste. The alcohol is there.

Green 11.2oz bottle purchased at Jims Homebrew in Spokane for $2.37. No freshness date.
Poured a hazel color that took on a ruby-ish hue when held to the light. A decent, light tan head perched atop the beer. Modest, spotty lace.
This beer has a sweet, malty scent. This is a different kind of sweetness than I expected. It reminds me slightly of a Belgian. Im not getting a lot of hoppiness from this one.
This is mostly sweet tasting, but theres a slight fruity bitter flavor that keeps it from being too sweet. Without this anchor, this beer would float of to Cloyingland. Theres a slight dryness at the swallow, but its pretty mild.
This is not a particularly stunning Bock, but its not bad either. I dont regret purchasing it, but I wont feel terribly drawn to it in the future, either.

An amazing pour, big brick coloured head over an amber ashed colour body. A sweet, malty nectar smell. Seems a little restrained but certainly pleasing. Mouthfeel a little lighter (perhaps, more watery) than some other great Dopplebocks. A lot of caramel with some roast. Surpringsly easy drinkability. Not as rich and slightly lighter bodied. Flavour is immensly tasty, sweet sweet malt! This should be made into a candy. Really, very good.

Wow, the head vanished so quickly it was like a case of Krispy Kremes at a fat camp. No lacing. Body is a diluted brown that is close to amber. Nose is strage ... like candied yams or something. Taste is nice. Almost rum-like with sweet brown sugar in the rear. Mouth is velvety smooth. I could have a couple happily.

Part of a "Beers of the World" sampler received as a birthday gift.
Pours a rusty garnet/mahogany with a finger of light khaki head. Pungent nose of sweet, bready malts and dark fruits. Taste continues with the dark, vinuous fruit with a yeasty, bready malt backbone and a hearty alcohol kick. Mouthfeel is rich and smooth, well carbonated. Overall, a strong, Eastern European-y doppelbock...obviously not a baltic porter. Read the label.

11.2 oz bottle pours a brownish-red color, nice creamy lasting tan head. Sweet malty, candy like aroma. Sweet candy, bready and caramel flavors, full body with a thick and full mouthfeel, this is not a bad bock, I would like to try it again, this is definitely not a Baltic Porter.

This isn't a porter, it's a double bock for sure. Pours a cloudy kind of tan color with a medium but thin off white head. Looks a little dirty almost. Lacing is sparse.
Aroma is buttery at first. I'm getting diacetyl right away but then the malts creep in. Caramel and toffee along with an earthy note. Slight fruitiness comes out as it warms.
Taste is traditional dopple at first with those sweet caramel and toffee malts dominating. A nutty, yeasty precense comes towards the middle. Diacetyl is less here, much less. Finish has a raisiny sweetness to it along with some herbs and alcohol esters (whiskey as well) which seem to prevent cloying and make me want to take another sip.
Body is on the thin side but the malts don't dominate like one might think they would. Becomes fruitier and richer with caramel as it warms up a bit. The drying elements on the finish prevent the cloying.
This is certainly drinkable. I would say a very pleasant surprise. Not the end all, be all of double bocks but definitely worth a try.

This poured from the bottle a deep copper to amber color. Very clear with a fluffy tan colored head. This does smell like a bock beer. Caramel in the front, a touch of peanut brittle, all accented by just a touch of hops, in the form of citrus. The taste is very fruity. Sweet dates, green apple, accented by the hop bitterness. Medium mouth feel, and a reasonably high alcohol content hurt the drinkability. Baltic Porter.. Huh??? I'm on board with the other reviews I just read on this beer. It's a nice bock, not a Baltic Porter.

Pours to a clear, bronze color with a tan head. Leaves a bit of lacing when sipped down. The aroma malty, spicy, bready and a bit fruity... has a slight bit of smokiness too.
The flavor is malty and bready with a hop spiciness. Has a bit of alcohol warmth too. A medium-full bodied brew. Very good.
