16oz can, new brewery for me, hope this one isn't too cloying...pours a dark brown capped with a cappuccino-like head of tight-bubbled khaki. Dark roast and chocolate/vanilla sweetness, notes of dried cherries buried there, mild coconut blended with mocha qualities, medium-bodied, sweetness is definitely balanced for my palate, which is nice. Good.

Taster at Loyal Legion. Dark brown pour, ring of beige head. Aroma is coffee, sweet, chocolate. Taste is chocolate milk with coffee (mocha?). Light sweetness and milky notes.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, cocoa and coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, lactose and light coconut and vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A well balanced pastry stout with good chocolate and vanilla character and a touch of coconut and some quite nice whiskey notes from the barrel. This relatively new brewery seems to have hit the ground running. A few cans from them showed up in our market late last year and all were solid offerings. This is an excellent introduction to their barreled beers and I look forward to seeing what else makes its way north.
