John Geaghan was raised on the tough streets of Bangor, fought in World War II, and wanted nothing more than to come home and start a family. Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company grew from Dad's dream of a better life for his family. It seems fitting to introduce Dad's Oatmeal Stout on Geaghan's favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day. Our oatmeal stout is full bodied and silky smooth with coffee-like aromas. Additions of Chinook and U.S. Goldings hops give balance and moderate bitterness to this rich, dark beer.

A: appears opaque and almost black in color; but if held to the light, it's crystal clear with deep mahogany highlights; with a fairly aggressive pour, a 2 finger finely pored tan head that receded to a wispy cap with a moderate collar; OK lacing;

S: milk chocolate with deeply roasted grain;

T: flavor is a little subdued; what's there is deeply roasted grain from start to finish; moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;

O: good, but it's always disappointing when flavor is the weakest component;

I tried this at the restaurant location near the Hollywood Hotel in downtown Bangor whilst there on vacation. The beer poured an opaque dark with foamy white head that left some lace. The scent had faint hints of roast. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with subtle coffee and chocolate finish. The mouthfeel was nitro in body with smooth carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.
