Served on nitro, Blackstone is dark and roasty with loads of coffee and chocolate notes, yet smooth, dry, and easy-drinking.
Blackstone, an Irish Dry Stout, is named for Worcester's bygone canal, the construction of which brought thousands of Irish immigrants to Worcester in the early 19th century.

From a 4-pack of cans, dated 10 days prior.
Look - 3.25 - Dark pour with medium head that fades fast, and little lacing.
Smell - 3.75 - Coffee and malty, with hints of cocoa. Good balance, nothing overpowering.
Taste - 2.5 - Sweet up front, lacking dryness, that fades into a roasty back end. Watery. As beer warms off notes of soy appear.
Feel - 2.75 - Thin and somewhat watery
Overall - 3.06 (avg) - A slightly above average sessionable stout. Dryness is definitely lacking, and too sweet, but not unpleasant to drink. Unfortunately this stout is best enjoyed cold, as there are some bad tasting notes that appear as it comes above 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Would order on tap, would not buy cans again. Minor pet peeve in labeling something "Irish" that is from Massachusetts, should be "Irish style".

Nitro pour at the brewery.
Pours a dark cola brown with 2 fingers of creamy khaki head. The head leaves some splotchy lacing as it eventually settles into a thin golden ring.
The aroma brings notes of bread and dark roast malts. Very little chocolate on the back end. Pretty straightforward.
The flavor follows the nose: Lots of dark roast malts, doughy bread, and very subtle chocolate. Faintly metallic. Like a weaker Guinness.
The feel is medium-light bodied. Relatively smooth and dry.
Overall, a mediocre stout that tastes just like Guinness with no punch. The chocolate is barely existent and it's just...boring. Not worth your time.

Draft at brewery
Big pillowy nitro head, never fades, black beer
Nose roasty dry dark malts, little chocolatey, typical creamy nitro, mild coffee
Taste nice roasty dark malts, coffee, little chocolate, more creamy nitro, nice dark roasty but smooth malt and little, little bitterness mostly from the malt, no acrid or burnt flavors, dry but creamy finish, lingering roast and mild bitterness
Mouth is med bod, creamy nitro, decent nitro carb
Overall pretty nice, very solid and well done

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery grand opening today.
A - Poured a nice dark brown almost black with a thick n creamy two finger light mocha head that doesn't really go anywhere thanks to the nitro.
S - Big aromas of roasted malts, little bit of chocolate, some good roasted coffee, nice grains. Definitely an Irish dry stout with just a little flash of grassy slightly sweeter hops after a hard swirl.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of roasted malts with flashes of chocolate and coffee. Lighter bitterness but what lingers is that rich roasted malt.
M - Mouthfeel is smooth, carbonation is what it is thanks to the nitro. Good body though.
O - Overall this was a really nice dry Irish stout. Excellent roast notes on this. I'm not really big into nitro, however, this beats the hell out of a Guinness.
