Can to lager glass.
Bottom stamped "04/07/20."
The appearance yielded a soft semi-brown color in the pour but held more of a dark brown to black color in the glass. Small eggshell white foamy head slid off nicely to leave some filmy lace.
The aroma started with more of an earthy to ashy coffee to a soft yeasty biscuity malty whiff. Took a little bit of time, but subtle sweet qualities of maple linger underneath.
The flavor copied the aroma pretty much spot on - sweet, ashy coffee, earthiness and German yeasty to biscuity dark malts. Sweet ashy aftertaste, touch of German yeastiness.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Good carbonation. Nice earthy German yeasty dry grip like a good Schwarzbier should. Finishes earthy dry and toasty.
Overall, to me, it's a nicely done Schwarzbier but the maple is fairly quaint. It's one I'd like to have again preferably this Autumn.
