On tap at Moor Pat in Buffalo, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like bitter and dark roasted coffee, smoke, dark chocolate, espresso shots, and roasted malt.
As pastry stouts go, this is fairly un-pastry in presentation. Other beers that I've had with Vietnamese coffee have been much sweeter- this presents as fairly bitter and roasty coffee. There's some nice cocoa sweetness, but it's mainly burly in taste. There's some light smoke, and just a big roast character. I like it, it just wasn't what I was expecting.
This is medium bodied, slightly thin for the style and ABV, but very drinkable. It's a little bit boozy, but nothing overwhelming.
I kind of expected this to be really, really sweet, so the fact it wasn't was a pleasant surprise for sure.
