2021 500 ml bottle with a fancy white wax dip. Poured cool to a Glencairn glass. Color is jet black, oily viscosity as it slithers out. No head, looks dead still.
Nose is a pleasant hit of bright bourbon with a breeze of stone fruits and a hit of chocolate.
First sips bring on a fresh Woodford Reserve flavor, that is, lots of barrel woodiness along with a deep spicy bourbon. A bigger presence of plum jamminess plays against the bourbon. It’s interesting, not distracting, and brings out a uniqueness to the stout base. It’s a vinous quality as if it were aged in red wine barrels at some point. I get the impression of a wet cacao nib slurry, not as liqueur-ish as many stouts using it elicit, but you can find it in the linger. I don’t really get much in the way of either the raw or toasted coconut; no sparkle floaters like I often see with the use of raw coconut, E.g., other local Thin Man Coconut Jenkins.
Alcohol has a little bite up front that cuts the viscosity well, brings a fair amount of warming.
Overall, a decent offering. I have one more to age a little because, well, Woodford Reserve. At $26 per 500 ml, the price is a bit ambitious for me to buy more for what it offers.
