This beer is brewed by the Corner Pub for the Hideaway Pub in Chaseburg (according to the Hideaway's recipe) - you can get it there on tap or in growlers.
Appearance: Black, not visibility. 1/2 inch head, dissipated in about a minute, leaving lingering lacing on the top of the beer. Thick and viscous, with legs left on the glass.
Aroma: Deep cocoa and cane sugar notes, coffee higlights, suggestion of smokiness buttressed with caramel malt finish.
Taste: Full flavored porter with a little upfront bitterness balanced perfectly with a sweet caramel malt finish. Not much aftertaste at all, and no astringency. Despite the development of caramel, cocoa, espresso and milk, the porter doesn't actually carry a lot of smokiness. My wife described it like a liquid chocolate cake, though this should be mistaken as suggesting the beer is overly sweet - the brew's greatest attribute is its balance.
Mouthfeel: Creamy and smooth, owing to light carbonation; an almost oily finish and a pleasant malt aftertaste.
Drinkability: One of the best porters I've had in a while - one was great, the growler I brought home was great too. Sessionable or a sipper. The heavy body might hold some back from drinking more than one or two.
