A very solid offering from a new-ish brewery. They've been in production for a bit over two years now, and I continue to be impressed.
The only other barrel-aged amber farmhouse ale intent on replicating the flavor profile of an old-fashioned cocktail drink that I have had is Wicked Weed's Old Fashioned .... and that was a long while ago.
That said, there is a softer, more palatable characteristic with Roughhouse's version. I find it to be more appealing then the WW version.
On it's own two-feet (independent of a comparison to another beer) I enjoyed this. There is a smokey-ness to it that's both enjoyable and yet not over the top or annoying. This beer has a great nose to it, where all the flavors come through. Hints of whiskey, cherries & orange peel all come through in the smell. Acceptable thin white line with some bubbles for head-retention, this beer continues to lure you into having another sip. Overall, I'm glad I purchased this and I would certainly purchase again if given the opportunity. CHEERS!
