Our imperial stout collaboration with the band Shakey Graves is rich and full-bodied with big chocolate notes, hints of toffee and candied figs, and balanced with roasted Cosmic coffee on the finish.

Shakey Graves Stout from Roughhouse. 16 oz can from Spec’s, DeZavala, San Antonio, TX. $ 5.74 (including tax) ($ 0.359/oz). Stored at room temperature in store and at 40 degrees after purchase. Reviewed 07/03/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 60 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 62.4 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), hazy.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum 6.5 cm, aggressive center pour), citron, medium density with average retention, diminishing to a one cm crown and cap.
Lacing – None, other than a couple of drag marks.
Aroma – 4 – A bitter mix of chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4 – Begins bitter with coffee and roasted malt, no hops, no yeast, no cocoa. No ethanol (9.3% ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma; however, there is moderate gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, approaching creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated personal container) Just bitter and fairly strong coffee with a shot or two of absolute ethanol.
